Meet the Crew: Share Winter Foundation, partner
Adventure Crew is thrilled to be one of 65 Share Winter Foundation partner organizations across the country this year!
The foundation's mission is to enrich the lives of youth through winter sports. To that end, it will support 48,000 youth ages five through 18 this winter.
Among them are 25 Crew teens who are enrolled in our ongoing Discoverer-level skiing and snowboarding adventure series.
Students are expected to participate in at least four of the five scheduled sessions, which began in mid-January and will wrap up next week.
"The goal is to not just introduce kids to skiing and snowboarding, but to get them over the hump of learning the basic skills to where they feel confident on the green (beginner) and even blue (intermediate) runs and chair lifts," Crew Executive Director Libby Hunter said.
Share Winter worked with Perfect North Slopes to arrange for no-cost lift tickets, rentals and one-hour lessons for student and staff; with outdoor gear brand Seirus to provide a donation of high-quality ski gloves: and also provided donations of neck gaiters and balaclavas for our teens.
Six Adventure Crew staff members and five volunteers, two of whom are professional ski and snowboard instructors, are supporting our teens in this program.
"After the lessons provided by Perfect North Slopes are over, our volunteers and staff kick in, continuing to teach, mentor and cheer on our teens as they hone their skills on the slopes," Libby said.
"Share Winter has been a fantastic partner!" Program Director Paige said. "They've streamlined the entire process, making it incredibly easy for us to provide this experience to our teens. Their support has been amazing throughout.
"It's incredible to see the growth in student skills," she added. "The students, staff and volunteers are all having a blast, and the camaraderie and support among the kids is truly heartwarming."
Thanks to board member Gerry Seavo James for helping us forge this partnership with the Share Winter Foundation!
