Meet the Crew: Claire Fischer, board member

We're excited to welcome our newest board member, Claire Fischer!

Claire joined the board in March, bringing insights she's gained from her many years of experience as a CPA. She started her career as a tax specialist for a wealth management firm before establishing her own small accounting practice, Claire Fischer, CPA, in 2020. Today, she divides her time between that practice and accounting and property management for her brother's construction company, 8K Construction.

"Adding a certified public accountant to our board was a critical step for Adventure Crew this year -- our program enrollment, and subsequently our budgetary and financial needs, have grown significantly in the past 12 months," said Executive Director Libby Hunter. "We've had a top-notch finance committee, and now with Claire as part of that team, we are well-positioned to continue strategically shaping this growth. Claire's financial expertise and passion for our mission are tremendous assets!" 

Claire had heard of Adventure Crew because of Ohio River Paddlefest, our largest community event. She was formally introduced to the organization -- and Executive Director Libby Hunter -- by a mutual friend of theirs in summer 2023. Our mission was a perfect fit with her interests. 

"I tend to drift toward causes that benefit kids, and I love being outside!" she said.

"This is my first foray into the nonprofit board world," she added. "I like being around people who are working for a cause they believe in. It's a refreshing change of pace from the accounting/tax world."

Claire's favorite outdoor activities are skiing, hiking and taking long walks through her neighborhood, East Walnut Hills, and surrounding neighborhoods. Fun fact: Claire grew up in that neighborhood, moved away from Cincinnati for about 12 years, and then moved back ... into the house across the street from the one where she grew up.

Besides her work and the outdoors, Claire enjoys spending time with the kids in her life -- her nine-year-old daughter, three nieces and two nephews.
