Stellar student

If you read our newsletters or follow us on social media, you’ve likely seen a photo or two of Crew member Atlas. Atlas, who will be a senior at Walnut Hills High School this fall, started adventuring with the Crew in seventh grade and convinced his best friend, Leah, to join. He’s since been an extremely active member of the Crew. Just this summer, he took part in our Boundary Waters trip (and was interviewed on the local news about it!), participated in the Climb L8 program, attended Mighty Dozen, worked the Adventure Crew booth at the Outdoors For All Expo and paddled in Ohio River Paddlefest. Wow!

Before getting on the water at Paddlefest, Atlas and other Crew members helped pull in boats at the event’s halfway point. “The other students were joking that they couldn’t get to any boats because Atlas was the first to get to them,” programming director Paige said. “He’s a hard worker and is always willing to lend a helping hand with Crew staff and other students on trips.”

Earlier this year, Atlas took part in our spring break swim lessons program, and he was recognized at our year-end campout with the “Leave No Trace Award” for going above and beyond those principles.

Atlas is also into cleaning and preserving animal bones. When he finds them on a Crew adventure or on his own time, he cleans them up and donates them to local museums or other interested organizations.

Thanks, Atlas, for being a strong advocate for Adventure Crew!
